Vaccinations for School-Age Children

Today, most states and school districts expect children entering school and child care to receive specific vaccinations. But these requirements can lead to some confusion.

Are you unsure which vaccines your children or the children in your school need to be healthy ? Do you worry about the safety of vaccines? Do you want to teach your students about vaccination?

Many of your questions can be answered using the resources on this page.

We all know that vaccines play an important role in preventing childhood illnesses that once caused the death of or severly injured tens of thousands each year, like polio, measles, and influenza (flu).

But some parents and education professionals are wary of vaccines because of safety concerns. The truth is, vaccines’ benefits clearly outweigh the risks, and we all share the responsibility for vaccination to keep our children, our schools, and our communities safe.

Use the resources on this page to learn more about particular vaccines that the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends for most school-age children, which states require particular vaccines, and other important information about vaccinating school-age children.
