Through
the sending of patriotically-theme stuffed bears

changed in its aftermath (3-5) and/or the ideal
world they would like to live in (K-2).
Time
Needed
Long-term
project
Materials
2
stuffed bears, letters, journal, box, pictures
Lesson
- Patriotically
decorate two stuffed bears, Liberty and Faith.
- Decorate
a home for the bears, the box in which they
will be sent.
- Draft
a letter relating the class’ feelings
about the event and asking questions of the
bears’ recipients. Include pictures of
the class and a journal for reactions in the
box.
- Send
them across the country asking people to enter
thoughts into the journal and share pictures
of the bears’ visit with them.
- When
the bears return, in about four months, create
a scrapbook of their adventures and America’s
feelings about the tragedy of September 11 and
its aftermath.
Enchancements
- Spend
time considering to whom the bears should be
sent and why
- Spend
a class session on developing the questions
that should be asked in the letter
